Shandong University Climate Change and Health Center

Shandong University Climate Change and Health Center (SUCH) opened in September 2010. It was established to have a better understanding of climate change, to protect human health, and to assist capacity building in health education for better adaptation to future climate change.

Our primary goals are to engage research, to train health professionals with an interdisciplinary perspective, to response to climate change, and to protect human health.

Our missions include 1) collaboration for capacity building to conduct research on the association between climate change and health, 2) strengthening scientific communication with international experts and promoting technology & information sharing, 3) integrating research and education for the training of interdisciplinary professionals.

The SUCH is a virtual institute, which combines the expertise from multiple disciplines within Shandong University, e.g. the School of Public Health, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and the Center for Health Management and Policy, as well as, talents from other organizations, e.g. China CDC, Shandong Provincial Hospital, Shandong CDC, the University of Adelaide Australia, China Meteorological Administration, Shandong Provincial Meteorological Bureau. Professor Qiyong Liu at the China CDC, the IPCC5 leading author in China, is the inaugural Director of the Center.

Our research focuses on climate change and public health, including the development of research approaches, the examination of mechanisms, the exploration of the interaction of climate change, environmental change, human activities, and public health, in order to provide scientific evidence to adapt to climate change and to assist the sustainable development of the ecology.

With the principles of “communication, collaboration, determination, and integration”, we cordially invite all researchers, policy-makers and service providers who are interested in climate change and health to join our center.
